October Is for a Little More Sass: Why a Pin-Up Party Is the Perfect Girls’ Day

There’s something about October that invites us to play.

The air gets cooler, the colors become richer, and suddenly we’re surrounded by deep reds, warm golds, vintage boots, bold lipstick, and just enough attitude to try something different.

And that makes October a pretty perfect month for a Pin-Up Party.

Not because you need to become someone else for the camera.

Quite the opposite.

A pin-up experience is an opportunity to bring forward that playful, confident, feminine side of yourself that may not get nearly enough time in your everyday life.

Gather Your Girls

Think about the women you laugh the hardest with.

The ones who have been there through relationships, careers, motherhood, reinvention, celebrations, heartbreaks, and all those chapters nobody warned us about.

Now imagine getting everyone together, turning on the music, getting glammed up, slipping into something fabulous and spending a few hours simply having fun.

That’s the heart of a pin-up party.

It can be a birthday celebration, girls’ day, milestone, reunion—or absolutely no occasion at all.

Sometimes “because we deserve a day together” is reason enough.

You Don’t Have to Know How to Pose

One of the biggest worries I hear from women is:

“But Krisleen, I don’t know what to do in front of a camera.”

Good.

You don’t need to.

That’s my job.

After more than 30 years behind the camera, I know that beautiful portraits aren’t created by asking you to magically become a model.

I guide you.

We work with your body, your personality and your comfort level. We create expressions and poses that feel natural to you while still capturing that fabulous vintage pin-up personality.

There may be a little sass.

There may be a lot of laughter.

And there will probably be at least one moment when you see yourself and think:

“Wait…that’s ME?”

Yes, Goddess. It is.

Vintage Style, Your Personality

Pin-up doesn't mean everyone has to look the same.

Maybe you're drawn to classic polka dots and pearls.

Maybe you're a denim-and-boots cowgirl.

Maybe you want the red lipstick, curls and classic car.

Or maybe your version of vintage glamour has a modern edge.

The clothing and styling help tell the story, but you are still the most important part of the portrait.

That is what I love about photographing women this way. Once we stop worrying about creating the “perfect” picture, personality begins to show up.

The laugh.

The mischievous smile.

The confidence.

The friendship.

The woman underneath all the responsibilities.

October Gives Us Permission to Play

October already has a little theatrical energy to it.

We decorate. We dress differently. We embrace richer colors and bolder looks. Halloween reminds us that, at least for one night, adults are still allowed to dress up and play.

I say we don't have to wait for Halloween.

Use October as your reminder that femininity doesn't have an expiration date.

Neither does sensuality.

Neither does playfulness.

And confidence certainly doesn't belong only to women in their 20s.

At 30, 40, 50, 60 and beyond, there are still new versions of ourselves waiting to be discovered.

Sometimes putting on a fabulous outfit and stepping in front of a camera helps us see one of them.

But the Photographs Become Something More

Here's the part I love most.

The day itself is fun—but the photographs remain long after the party ends.

Years from now, you may not remember everything that was happening in your life that October.

But you'll look at that photograph and remember your girlfriends laughing beside you.

You'll remember how fabulous you felt.

You'll remember the woman you were in that season of your life.

And perhaps you'll remember that you gave yourself permission to be visible instead of standing behind the camera or waiting until you lost weight, felt younger, became more confident or reached some imaginary version of “ready.”

You showed up as you were.

And that woman was worth photographing.

Ready for Your Own Pin-Up Party?

Grab your girlfriends and make this October one you'll actually remember.

Bring your personality.

Bring your girlfriends.
