5 Myths About Couples Boudoir Photography

Couples boudoir photoshoots create an opportunity to capture the intimacy of your relationship in a fun and safe atmosphere. However, some common myths about boudoir photography could be keeping you from reaping all its benefits.

Myth #1 – Boudoir photography is pornography

Let me state as emphatically as I can that a couple’s boudoir shoot is NOT pornography. Aside from the fact that sex is not a part of the session, the purpose of the photos is completely different. These couples photos create a bonding memory and a sense of closeness and intimacy. The process is a celebration of your relationship at its current stage and a way to capture the beauty of your unique connection.

Myth #2 – We’re not sexy enough

Comparing ourselves to air-brushed magazine ads and celebrity couples is an easy way to challenge our ego, but the truth is that every relationship has sex appeal. Doing something new and intimate with your partner is always sexy and most couples report a sudden increase in their confidence after a boudoir photoshoot. Your sexiness is in your chemistry together, not someone else’s idea of what is attractive.

Myth #3 – You have to be naked in front of a stranger

Absolutely not. Sensual photos don’t require nudity at all, so you can be as clothed or as undressed as you are comfortable with. Bring the clothing that makes you feel the most attractive or borrow from our curated wardrobe. You get to call the shots about how much of your body you want to expose.

Myth #4 – I’m too shy

Shyness is a legitimate feeling and it’s ok to admit nervousness about a new experience. As a professional couples photographer, I understand your apprehension and will keep the mood light and fun. Almost everyone is anxious before a photoshoot, but don’t let your nerves get in the way of an amazing experience together.

Myth#5 – You have to know how to smile and pose

One of the great things about hiring a couples photographer is that you don’t have to be well-versed in posing… that’s the professional’s job. You will be coached into the most flattering poses and never have to crack a smile if you don’t want to (although you’ll be having so much fun you probably won’t be able to help it.) Your only task is to show up and let the expert work her magic.

Conclusion

Whether you’re playfully dating, recently engaged, or celebrating your 40th wedding anniversary, couples photography is a creative way to document your relationship. What makes you unique as a couple? Maybe you enjoy cosplay and want to dress as Star Wars characters or 1920s gangsters. Your sexiness is in your chemistry together and a little bit of a risk on your part will go a long way in creating a one-of-a-kind keepsake
