Pin-Up Style

The allure of the Pin-Up style, often associated with a bygone era, will never go out of fashion. Perhaps you’ve seen the photos in my gallery of bombshell babes in flowery dresses, sexy heels and glamorous makeup, wishing you could adopt this style for yourself. If so, I have some tips and tricks to help you fit Pin-Up into your modern routine.

Pin-Up culture has so much to offer modern women. In an era where beauty standards seem unachievable, Pin-Up allows us to proudly flaunt our curves instead of striving to conceal them. It reminds us of the influential women from our own history, foraging the path for our rights and autonomy. Pin-Up is far more than cute clothing and classy makeup, it is a symbol of strength, power and resiliency.

You don’t have to wait until you’ve got a wardrobe full of circle skirts and cardigans to begin embracing the magic of this aesthetic. Here are a few easy ways to experiment with the Pin-Up style and kickstart a transformation in your confidence.

Clothing

Pin-Up fashion is classy, elegant and a little flirty. It focuses on clean lines that accentuate your hips and curves, tastefully revealing a hint of skin without going overboard. Iconic pieces include:

  • Pencil skirts
  • Circle skirts
  • Cardigans
  • Tucked-in blouses
  • Cigarette pants
  • Sailor shorts
  • Swing dresses

High-waisted shorts, pants and skirts are great options that look incredibly flattering as they slim your tummy while accentuating your waist. When you feel more ambitious, seamed stockings and peep-toe high heels will leave you feeling like a queen. A quick Pinterest search for “Pin-Up Outfit Ideas” will provide a never-ending list of creative ensembles.

Makeup & Hairstyles

The key elements of a Pin-Up girl’s makeup include:

  • a flawless foundation
  • long, thick lashes
  • cat-eye eyeliner
  • well-defined brows
  • red lipstick

If the thought of experimenting with a new makeup style feels daunting, YouTube offers a wealth of video tutorials to help you out. Embrace the process with a playful attitude and allow yourself permission to have fun exploring new techniques and products.

My same advice goes for hairstyles… find some tutorials and have fun experimenting. Whether you have short, long, wavy or straight hair, you’re sure to find a vintage look that suits you. If victory rolls seem too intimidating, begin with pin curls for a soft, wavy look. Complete your look with handkerchiefs, bows or flower clips and you’re well on your way to being a Pin-Up diva.
